Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park will celebrate James Marshall’s discovery of gold in the tailrace of Sutter’s Mill on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to all park visitors.
At 10 a.m., join in our Grand Opening of the new museum exhibits. Over at the mill site, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be living history demonstrations, games and crafts for the children, and a timber framing demonstration. Learn about the construction methods used to build the original Sutter’s Mill and our reproduction sawmill. Grab a friend for the log sawing challenge, learn about the various techniques used to find gold during the Gold Rush, or visit the millworker’s cabin to hear the story of the gold discovery. At 2 p.m. join us in the visitor center theater as we kick off our 2019 lecture series learning about John Sutter and Jennie Wimmer.
