For many in our community, unreliable access to medical care access is real. Did you know that there is a free, compassionate, and private point of access right here in Placer County? Sierra Pregnancy + Health (SPH) has been serving residents in our community since 1999, growing from a small resource center in Auburn, to a fully functional and certificated medical clinic in Roseville. Located in the heart of Placer County, SPH’s convenient location helps to serve patients from all over the region.
As a non-profit, free medical clinic, funded 100 percent by private donations, SPH receives no state or federal government funding. SPH administers multiple community programs, including free early detection pregnancy testing and confirmation, ultrasound, prenatal education, pregnancy and life skills training, provision of resources for mothers and infants, nutrition and parenting education, mentoring for expectant parents, and STD/STI screening and treatment. SPH provides medical care to those who often have been unable to receive services through their primary care provider. In addition to medical care, staff and volunteers support women who are facing hardships. That is often when parenting classes, a diaper bank, and even prenatal vitamins are needed the most.
For the greater community, SPH administers free STD and STI testing and treatment, combatting growing epidemics such as the meteoric rise in gonorrhea cases the Center for Disease Control has called “the second most commonly reported notifiable disease in the United States.” “We provide the community with a safe, compassionate environment to empower themselves with information, answers, and treatment. We are working on removing the stigma around STD/STI testing and unplanned pregnancies. You are not alone and you do not have to go without healthcare,” says Executive Director Tricia Lewis.
SPH coordinates family-friendly fundraising events throughout the year to support their services, stock their diaper bank, and encourage community awareness of their presence. You can find SPH at events around the community, open to answering questions and happy to debunk any myths that can pervade the pregnancy and sexual healthcare clinic space.
